Major Retailer Reveals Why Halloween 2025 Could Be the Scariest
(KMDL-FM) Yeah, I know it's Memorial Day, just happened, and the kids just got out of school. So it makes sense that Halloween isn't on your mind in Louisiana. We've got other scary things to worry about between now and October, right?
There is Hurricane Season, that's supposed to be rowdy again, and it gets underway on June 1st. Chances are, we'll have a few heat advisories between now and October, too. Then there will be the beginning of a new school year and a new football season. All of which can bring trepidation in their own unique ways.

Then, after all of that, we'll finally get around to the holiday that is supposed to be scary, and that would be Halloween. For many Halloween aficionados, the go-to store for costumes, make-up, and accessories is Spirit Halloween.
When Do Spirit Halloween Stores Usually Open for the Season?
That retailer usually finds an empty storefront and opens up shop for a few months ahead of the holiday. Around our town, the Spirit Halloween store usually opens in August, just before the kids go back to school. However, 2025 could be very different for Spirit Halloween and for those who like to shop there.
The reason for the uncertainty and extra-scary nature of Halloween 2025? The tariffs. Yeah, the taxes on imports that are being proposed could greatly affect how you celebrate Halloween and, to an even larger extent, Christmas. No, it's not that prices will be higher. It's more along the lines of merchandise won't be available.
Spirit Halloween has noted that many manufacturers in foreign lands that create the costumes and accessories they sell have slowed production, while others have shuttered their doors altogether. This could not only mean higher prices, but also the more likely scenario that merchandise just won't be available.
Spirit Halloween is on track to open some 1,500 locations for the upcoming spooky season, but they are already on record in suggesting that inventory could and would be a major problem.
