(KMDL-FM) If we are correct in viewing today's Internet as the Information Super Highway that we were told it would become. Then we must also be correct in our assumptions that the Information Super Highway supports a lot of "unlicensed and untrained" drivers. Yeah, I am talking about the TikTok news network and the reports that Walmart is closing on November 1st.

I am not knocking TikTok; I check out a lot of influencers on the site. If they are telling me a story that affects me personally, I always research and verify the information before I proudly proclaim an "unintentional" untruth to be true.

The problem with the Internet and those "unlicensed and untrained" drivers is that they often leave that verification step out of their thought processes, and this is how we get millions of people looking at videos like this.

Why Would Walmart Be Closing Stores for In-Person Shopping on November 1st?

The gist of the multiple videos online is that the chaos caused by so many people who do not have SNAP benefits loaded onto their cards will result in a "run" of some kind on Walmart stores. According to the influencers, Walmart is taking a step to stop the chaos before it happens.

Thankfully, the folks at McClatchy News, who own several news outlets across the country, decided to ask Walmart about the rumors. Here is what Walmart responded to that inquiry.

What's the Truth About Walmart Closing Stores on November 1st?

In a nutshell, a Walmart spokesperson told the news outlet that the rumors aren't true and Walmart stores will remain open for business as usual on November 1st and the days following.

Now, when it comes to rumors, the folks at Snopes.com have always had a good handle on what's real and what's bull manure. Their findings agree with what the Walmart spokesperson said.  Snopes has classified the TikTok journalism in this case as false. But we like to call it, see below.

If you live in Louisiana, the legislature has approved emergency funding for some SNAP Benefits beyond November 1st. Hopefully, that will help families in need remain fed and nourished until our hired hands up in Washington can remove their heads from their backsides and serve the people who voted them into office.
