This is one of those situations that reminds women to never to feel silly or embarrassed for being extra cautious. Unfortunately, this is not the first or last time a scary incident like this will take place, but it is important that the local community be aware and alert when alone in public.

PSA For Lafayette Women Goes Viral

Estelle Lebourgeois, a Lafayette content creator, posted a video on Tiktok sharing that she was nervous to share the details of the incident that happened in June fearing that the person involved may be following her online. However, she decided to share her story to let locals know that this could happen to anyone, at any time.

She was leaving for the beach at 5 am the following morning and didn't want to pump her gas in the dark, so she went to what she considers a 'safe gas station,' the Circle K on the corner of Johnston Street and Doucet Rd., the day before.

She explains, "If you're a girl, then you know gas stations can be intimidating." I can absolutely attest to that. I don't ever stop at gas stations alone at night, and there are some stores I won't go to ever.

It was still broad daylight when Estelle got out of her car to pump her gas. Her card wasn't working at the pump, so she went inside to pay. That's when she notices a truck at the light quickly turn into the gas station and park next to her on the other side of the pump. The man then gets out of the truck and approaches her as shes pumping her gas, "its like a normal looking dad, not someone you would suspect would do something like this".

The man catches her off guard when he tells her, "Man, you are smoking hot." She explains that she would consider herself a defensive person who would say, "Leave me alone or stop talking to me," but she says it caught her so off guard that she froze and just looked at him weirdly.

That's when Estelle gets back in her vehicle, realizes that the pump is still not working, and runs back inside the store. At this point, the man drives off, but she considers asking the cashier to walk her to her car however, she decided against it since the man was gone.

As she finishes pumping her gas, the man returns, this time parking directly next to her passenger door. She quickly gets into her car and locks the doors as he starts to pull on her passenger door handle, "I'm like, stop, get off my car, but he keeps banging on my window saying he needs to tell me something."

She puts her car in reverse, and the man gets back in his truck and starts chasing her and trying to run her off the road and honking his horn. Estelle explains that she was so worried about getting run off the road she couldn't pick up her phone to dial 911.

This continues for 30 minutes until she realizes they are going to be stopped at a traffic light together. He pulls up on the side of her and once a car pulls up behind him she reverses backward into the Popeyes parking lot nearby and she gets away.

Drive To The Closest Police Station

Estelle's quick thinking saved her life, but she shared that there was one thing she should have done instead of driving around aimlessly.

Driving to the nearest police station is the number one recommendation for anyone in this type of situation.

Please be aware of your surroundings and don't be afraid to call your local police department if you are being followed or harrassed.
