Louisiana Man Has Slept Outdoors For Months With Rescue Dogs

He pledged to sleep outdoors on the grounds of their rescue site to raise awareness and funds for their efforts. Baker's goal is to raise $250,000 to build a proper animal shelter with a spay/neuter clinic in Evangeline Parish. So far, he has spent a total of 5 months sleeping alongside the rescue dogs under his and his wife's care.

KLFY provided an update after months of fundraising and sleeping outdoors; the Bakers are starting to see some progress in their mission, but it's far from over. The two-man show is taking care of more than 60 animals, which has its unimaginable ups and downs.

The couple continues to be vocal about the animal crisis in Louisiana and the over-breeding in Evangeline Parish. The Bakers told KLFY that they received over 20 dogs over the course of three weeks.

The good news is that the Bakers raised enough funds to put a deposit down on the first of four new buildings that will eventually shelter the animals from the elements.

Additionally, the Evangeline Parish Police Department is holding a pet food drive for Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue from August 12th through September 15th, 2024. To make a donation, kindly stop by the Sheriff's Office, located at 415 W Cotton St, Ville Platte, LA 70586.

You can also make a donation directly to their rescue efforts on their website or contact 337-210-6553.

We will continue to monitor Baker's admirable efforts to save animals in Acadiana from harm's way.

We’ve got three more buildings to build. We do have a long way to go either way. So, to have the police jury and the sheriff’s department now kind of standing with us, at least on some of this, is baby steps. But a little bit of help from each individual person in our parish can make a world of difference
