Videos Capture Tornadoes That Wreaked Havoc on Gretna, Killona, Greater New Orleans Area

Tornadoes that tore through the greater New Orleans area were captured on video by tower-traffic surveillance, doorbell cameras, and via the cell phones of numerous people who saw the twisters from their cars.

According to the National Weather Service, at least 2 EF-2 tornadoes have been confirmed in areas surrounding New Orleans. WDSU reports that one EF-2 tornado "touched down in Jefferson Parish and ended in Jefferson Parish." Another tornado proved to be deadly, touching down in the Killona-Montz area claiming the life of a 56-year-old woman.

Both tornadoes clocked winds of 120 mph or higher.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards spoke on the destruction and tragedy left in the wake of 21 reported tornadoes that touched down in Louisiana over the span of 24 hours.

A WDSU tower camera caught one tornado ripping through Arabi and the lower ninth ward of New Orleans.

Another video showed traffic coming to a halt on the Bonnet Carre spillway as a tornado sliced across the bridge.

This doorbell camera in Gretna shows just how quickly a tornado can pop up and do significant damage.

Photos and videos from Algiers showed heartbreaking devastation from one of the EF-2 tornados that touched down in the Greater New Orleans area.

Speaking of heartbreaking, Arabi was hit by a tornado for the second time this year with both twisters taking nearly identical paths.

Chilling video shows footage captured from the bottom of the Crescent City Connection as residents could only watch from their vehicles.

NOFD posted damage from New Orleans showing vehicles, buildings, and power lines mangled together in the aftermath of the tornadoes.

Video from Marrero showed the storefront of a Winn Dixie completely ripped apart.

The Killona-Montz communities are located south of I-10 just before the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Both areas are picking up the pieces and grieving after a tornado left multiple people injured and one person dead.

Tornadoes are scary enough to imagine when we see photos and videos of the aftermath, but to see them captured on video in such explicit detail is simply terrifying.
