BEWARE TEXAS: If A Ball Of Leaves In Your Tree It’s Not A Birds Nest

WHAT IS THIS BIG BALL OF NOTHING IN MY TREES?

Now that the flowers are beginning to bloom, you may notice large balls of leaves that sit in the crevices in certain parts of trees, I’m here to tell you those are not birds nest and you need to be very aware of what you are looking at. This nest is referred to as a Drey which contains leaves, grass, sticks, and dry mud. A Drey is usually larger than a bird's nest because of all the ingredients it contains to make its large nest.

WHY ARE DREYS SO IMPORTANT?

At the beginning of this article title, there’s a warning sign about the Drey, and the reason is that the Drey nest usually contains families of squirrels, also in some cases, it could also be home to certain vermin like possums. Drey allows our furry friends to start their families during the springtime comfortably before their young grow up and start their own families. If you happen to see a nest of leaves balled up in your tree, please REMEMBER, that a small family is there, and we need to protect them.
