JENNINGS, La. (AP) — Voters in Jennings will be asked to renew and rededicate a second penny sales tax to help fund city services, including relocating City Hall.

The American Press reports the city council voted unanimously Tuesday to seek state bond commission approval to place the item on the Dec. 8 election ballot.

Mayor Terry Duhon says the tax generates $2.4 million, part of which has been used to pay off the debt of the sewer plant, but that debt will be retired.

The tax renewal will fund about $1.9 million of the city's functions, including retirement benefits and capital outlay projects. About $500,000 will be used to retire the debt on a new City Hall.
