BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal is backing new restrictions on abortion providers in Louisiana.

The Republican governor announced Friday that he supports passage of a measure by Democratic Rep. Katrina Jackson that would require abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, similar to a controversial restriction recently passed in Texas.

Jindal's also supporting a bill by GOP Rep. Frank Hoffmann that would prohibit employees of abortion clinics from distributing information or making presentations at Louisiana's public and charter schools.

The proposals from the two northeast Louisiana lawmakers will be considered in the legislative session that begins Monday.

The Legislature has repeatedly supported adding new requirements on abortion providers in the state, seeking to limit access to the procedure.
