With Mardi Gras only days away, the buzz around Acadiana is palpable. Soon the barricades that have recently held up traffic around Lafayette will take center stage as streets fill with floats and revelers.

Home of the 2nd largest Mardi Gras in the world, Lafayette is known for a rockin' good Fat Tuesday that is still family friendly. City-Parish President Joey Durel commented on Lafayette's Mardi Gras celebration during his weekly "Lafayette Live" segment on "Mornings with Ken and Bernie" today.

It's such an opportunity for us to put a good foot forward. People from all around come down and they come back because we've been recognized as not only the second largest Mardi Gras in the country, but a very family friendly Mardi Gras.

Durel urged citizens to be kind, courteous, and welcoming to our out of town visitors during the festival weekend, as the tourism boom is not only good for Lafayette, but greater Acadiana as well.

The great thing about Mardi Gras is that people come down to Lafayette for the big city Mardi Gras, and while they're in the city they get to experience all the other Mardi Gras around Acadiana that are so unique and different. It's a wonderful way for people to experience not just Lafayette but Acadiana.
