At the Lafayette City-Parish Council meeting on January 22, 2013, members gave preliminary approval to an ordinance that would eliminate an existing two percent rebate given to local business owners as an incentive to pay to their sales taxes on time. The ordinance, originally sponsored by Councilman Jay Castille, will be presented for a final vote in two weeks, at the meeting on February 5.

If the council approves the ordinance, then city government would receive an additional $1.4 million each year, while the parish of Lafayette would receive another $104 thousand.
