LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A Lafayette High School teacher is expected to turn himself in after he allegedly threw a hammer at a student.

Police said they have been in contact with the teacher, 69-year-old Gene Daigle of Church Point, about the incident, which they said occurred on Friday.

Daigle will face a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault, police said. He will receive a summons and will not be booked into jail, police said.

The student was not hit, and no one was injured.
