Clerk of Court Louis Perret never said it out loud but I bet he thought about saying " I told you so:" after the Lafayette Parish Courthouse closed early yesterday afternoon because of a water leak.

Perret and many others have decried the condition of the courthouse facility for many years hoping to see improvements and renovations but so far voters have not seen the need great enough.

The good news, if there can be good news about a water leak, is that it has been repaired and the business of the parish courthouse will go on as usual today. The facility is set to reopen at 8:30 this morning.

Based on reports the leak occurred on the second floor of the courthouse facility and this allowed water to drip through the ceiling. Ceiling tiles were removed and desks and important equipment were covered or moved out of harm's way so at least the situation wasn't as bad as it could have been.

For a time phone and internet service at the courthouse were interrupted but the lines of communication with the courthouse have since been restored.
