Lafayette Police Department officials are continuing investigations into two unrelated shootings that occurred Tuesday evening.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Kyle Soriez said one suspect has been identified in the first shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Friendship Street at approximately 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

A warrant has been issued for 25-year-old David Bernard charging him with aggravated battery by shooting and felon in possession of a firearm.

Bernard was allegedly engaged in an argument with the another male, when he fired a handgun striking the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Then at approximately 11:00 p.m., police responded to another shooting in progress. Police determined one or more males forcefully entered a residence in the 500 block of Orchid Drive firing a weapon, and striking the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both incidents remain under investigation and do not appear to be related.
