On Thursday, March 15, 2012, there is a statewide education reform protest planned at the State Capitol. Schools in Lafayette Parish will remain open and plan to continue normal education.

LPSS Superintendent Pat Cooper says teachers will be in classrooms even though there may be more substitutes than teachers.

Debate begins today in the House Education Committee on key portions of Governor Bobby Jindal's education reform plan. Teachers across the state plan to attend the rally at the State Capitol against the reform plan tomorrow.

St. Martin Parish, Vermilion Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish have canceled classes tomorrow but Lafayette Parish chose to remain open.

While teachers have every right to participate in the rally, they are asked to go through the correct procedures of taking off and are asked not to use sick days.
