LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A 28-year-old woman has been taken into custody after sparking a standoff with police.

Cpl. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department says officers responded to a home yesterday evening on Nora Dr. after receiving reports that someone was illegally shooting a gun.

Mouton says police tried to get the 28-year-old woman inside to come out to talk with them, but she fired several shots inside the home instead.

Members of the SWAT team and negotiators were dispatched to the scene, Mouton says. They were finally able to convince the woman to come outside and surrender.

Mouton says the woman was taken to a medical facility for evaluation.

Mouton says the pistol she used was found inside the home and taken as evidence. The case remains under investigation.
