Guy Fieri of Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is heading up a fundraiser meant to help laid-off restaurant workers by giving them a $500 grant.

According to the Food & Wine Magazine's website, Fieri got together with the National Restaurant Association for ideas, and they came up with the Restaurant Employee Relief Program. The fund is currently taking applications from laid-off restaurant employees and, if approved, they could receive the $500 grant.

So far, according to the story, Fieri has helped the fund raise over $8.3M in a few short weeks. He's been on the phone with corporate big-wigs and has a goal of raising $100M for the fund by continuing to ask big corporations for donations. When those leads dry up, he plans on asking them to reach out to friends and colleagues to donate.

I've always been a fan of his Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives show (I've even eaten at a few of the restaurants featured on his program), and now I am a fan of the man from Flavortown himself.
