Revenge was on the mind Thursday for two schools playing in back-to-back LHSAA State Title games.

First, Ascension Catholic was looking for revenge against one of our local schools in Lafayette Christian Academy. The Knights beat AC 9-0 last year in what was an ugly game that didn't feature Knights star quarterback Zach Clement who was injured at the end of the 2017 regular season. Last season we also saw star receiver Errol Rogers Jr playing quarterback and a couple of the better Ascension Catholic players involved in a car accident just days before the game. 2018 was a much different story.

With both teams at pretty much full strength, we saw a terrific first half of football in which the Knights lead 14-7. They scored on their first play from scrimmage when the quarterback who couldn't play last season found the wide receiver who filled in for him for a 60-yard touchdown strike. Clement to Rogers just how they wanted it to be.

The second half was a different ballgame as the Knights scored 42 unanswered points and held the Bobcats off the scoreboard to win 56-7. Zach Clement was a beast running and throwing the football as he accounted for five total touchdowns. Meanwhile, wide receiver/defensive back Sage Ryan accomplished a rare feat, he caught a touchdown, returned an interception for a touchdown, and returned a punt for a score. There would be no revenge for the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs in this one as the Knights are back-to-back champs.

With the second local game of the day, we saw another rematch this time in Division III as the Notre Dame Pioneers were looking for revenge against the Catholic High New Iberia Panthers after they stunned the Pio's last season.

Things didn't start out promising for Notre Dame as on the first play of the game Trenayvion Amos took the snap and kept it for a long touchdown run, breaking tackles and outrunning many defenders. It was quickly 7-0 but the Pio's would respond and score on their first drive and eventually go into the half with a 21-7 lead that they would not relinquish.

They got 21 in the first half and they matched it in the second half as head coach Louie Cook's squad got plenty of offense with quarterback Ben Broussard and tailbacks Noah Bourgeois and C.J. Thibodeaux who were all phenomenal.

On the defensive side of the football, senior middle linebacker Cody LeBlanc was all over the place and took down Tre Amos many a time.

So, in this case revenge was found by the Notre Dame Pioneers as they defeated the Catholic High New Iberia Panthers 42-21.
