BALDWIN, La. (AP) — Preparations have begun to move a 2,000-ton barge that has been stranded in a St. Mary Parish canal since it overturned on April 30.

The barge has been a point of contention between its owner and business owners who use the Charenton Navigational Canal for commerce, according to The Daily Iberian newspaper.

Barge owner Tina Moore said work to pump oil stranded in the barge's containment section began last week. Meanwhile, Moore said she has been working with the U.S. Coast Guard to develop a plan for the vessel's removal from the canal.
