The Louisiana National Guard is still seeing new things happen and this is no different. The very first female general has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General today.

Joanne Sheridan is not only getting the promotion, but is having a ceremony to honor the occasion as well.

The ceremony entails her getting a pin attached to her uniform to showcase her rank.

She hails from Leesville. Her most recent assignment was vice chief of the joint staff.

Before that, she was the commander of the 199th Regiment-Regional Training Institute at Camp Beauregard in Pineville.
