The year was 1987. The date was April 16th. That was the last time Louisiana Tech defeated the LSU Tigers in college baseball. Last night Louisiana Tech quashed the 30 plus years of baseball frustration by pounding the Tigers 12 to 1.

Granted, the two teams really haven't met that often in baseball. In fact, the LSU/ La Tech baseball rivalry was only renewed in 2016. Up until that game, the last time the two programs matched up on a baseball diamond was 1998. The teams had only met 60 times since 1902 and LSU has owned the Bulldogs with a lifetime record of 42 wins and 18 losses versus Tech.

For LSU and their fans, the loss was a continuing sign of concern regarding the Tiger's midweek game performances. The team has dropped three of their last four midweek contests. The fact that the Louisiana Tech bats were able to blast out 12 runs on 17 hits compared to the Tigers feeble effort of one run on four hits is enough to make even the staunchest LSU supporter a bit queasy.

We should mention that LSU was coming off a very emotional weekend series with Ole Miss. So, the fact that the Tigers were a little, okay a lot, flat could be attributed to the effects of that hard-fought series. Still, LSU is supposed to be head and shoulders above their in-state competition. However, this year the Tigers are five and five in their record against in-state schools.

Up next for the Tigers is a road trip to Fayetteville Arkansas to face the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. That three-game Southeastern Conference Series is set to begin on Thursday, weather permitting of course.
