Louisiana Tech reached ten wins for the first time since becoming an FBS program, defeating Miami (FL), 14-0 at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport before 33,159 fans Thursday.

It's the first time Tech (10-3) has won ten games in a season since 1984 when they went to the 1-AA championship game.

The Louisiana Tech defense held Miami to just 227 yards of offense.

Quarterback J'Mar Smith hit Israel Tucker with a 26 yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and the Bulldogs put the game away in the final minutes on Smith's eight yard touchdown run with just over a minute to play.

It was the second time this season that Miami (6-7) lost to a team from Conference USA.  Crosstown foe FIU defeated the Hurricanes earlier this year.

It was a disappointing season for first year head coach Manny Diaz, prompting Miami AD Blake James to issue a statement following the game.

The teams set a new Indy Bowl record for punts in a game with 18.  Each team punted nine times.
