Louisiana Teenager Jogging on a Levee Gets Shot
The Saint Parish Sheriff's Office says they have arrested 50-year-old Blaze Gilyot for a mistake that ended up with a 17-year-old jogger getting shot according to WWLTV.
Neither one of the people involved in this case knew about the other according to officials.
On Saturday, a 17-year-old male was jogging on the levee when shockingly he ended up getting shot.
Right before this, Sheriff's officials say Gilyot was in his backyard doing target practice. He says he never saw the young man. This was an accident. The man was using a .22 caliber gun for target practice aiming at a target he had set up on the levee.
Law enforcement officials say the minute Gilyot released that he had shot the teenager he ran to him to begin giving him aid. When emergency professionals were summoned to the scene they were able to airlift the teenager to an area hospital.
The young man is said to be in stable condition.
Gilyot, from Luling, was arrested on a charge of negligent injuring, and his bond was set at $5,000. Gilyot has since bonded out of jail.
Authorities say it is illegal for someone to practice target shooting in a neighborhood. The parish ordinance forbids people from shooting a gun in residential areas. The shooting took place behind the man's home on Cypress Street.
This is one of those strange accidents that happen in life, and the St. Charles Sheriff's Office said at the time there was no danger from this man. This was completely accidental.
