The LSU AgCenter says timber and poultry exports to Asia helped Louisiana's agricultural economy recover to $9.9 billion last year, up 20 percent from the $8.3 billion total in 2009. It says the poultry processing plant in Farmerville — which had been open only part of 2009 — and timber exports to Haiti for earthquake recovery construction also contributed. Poultry is Louisiana's biggest animal business, and the AgCenter's annual Ag Summary says it contributed about $1.6 billion to Louisiana's economy last year. That's up 80 percent from 2009, when it was $884 million.
