LSU Ranked #3 in First College Football Playoff Rankings
The initial rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee and the LSU Tigers are ranked third.
LSU (7-1) was the highest one loss team ranked and the Tigers were ranked ahead of two undefeated teams: Notre Dame (#4) and UCF (#12).
Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens, chair of the committee, said LSU's six wins over teams with winning records, along with their wins over Georgia and Mississippi State and close loss to Florida, were enough to rank LSU ahead of undefeated Notre Dame.
As expected, Alabama is ranked #1 and Clemson #2.
Michigan is ranked #5 and Georgia #6, followed by Oklahoma, Washington State, Kentucky and Ohio State.
