It was a successful opening weekend for the LSU Tigers baseball team as they went 3-0 beating teams such as ULM, Army, and Air Force. There was plenty of offensive firepower for the Tigers as they put up 35 runs over the weekend.

However, it was a pitcher who stole the SEC Freshman of the Week honors for his performance this weekend on the bump in Jaden Hill.

Hill is from Ashdown, Arkansas and really stood out in his collegiate debut when he pitched in the weekend finale facing Air Force. He did quite the number on the Falcons as he held their offense to one run on four hits over five innings pitched. In addition, he struck out eight batters while only allowing one walk.

Head coach Paul Mainieri had the youngster on a pitch count for his season debut as he threw just 71 pitches over the five innings he tossed. Hill struck out the first three batters he faced in the top of the first inning to allow him to really settle in.

In fact, Jaden was drafted out of high school as a senior last summer by the St. Louis Cardinals and he's the cousin of former Tiger outfielder Cedrick Harris. Cedrick was actually the starting centerfielder for the 2000 National Championship team for LSU.
