Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Director of Athletics, Dr. Bryan Maggard has written an open letter to Cajun Nation concerning the search for the next man to head the Cajuns' baseball program, following the death of long time coach Tony Robichaux last week.

In the letter, Maggard talked about the qualities he his looking for in the man chosen to move the program forward.  He also was quick to stress that, because of the interest in the job, many rumors will be out there.  He suggested unless they come from him, the rumors should be considered unfounded.

The complete text of the letter:

Dear Cajun Nation,

Earlier this week, we laid to rest our beloved friend and coach, Tony Robichaux. A developer of men, one of Coach Robe's greatest legacies will be the immense impact he had on everyone with whom he came into contact. Knowing how challenging the past several days have been, please know Kerry and I will continue to lift each of you up in thought and prayer over the days, weeks and months to come. A transition like this is certainly difficult, and I am so grateful for the love and support this community has given to the Robichaux family and our Ragin' Cajuns Baseball program.

As we "prepare to progress" by moving Louisiana Baseball forward, please understand the task at hand is not to replace Tony Robichaux, as that would be impossible. Rather, we will set out to identify our next Head Coach who will possess the character and standards our baseball program stands for and is accustomed to. During our search process, we will be quick but not hurried. We will commit to finding a coach who prioritizes the academic success of our student-athletes, focuses on the hearts of those he coaches, recruits relentlessly, and is a proven winner.

In similar fashion to previous searches, I will have no further public comment until the time arrives that we announce our new coach. Due to the notoriety and success of Louisiana Baseball, there will be great interest and speculation associated with this search. Thus, unless you hear information directly from me, please do not assume it to be accurate.

On behalf of University President Dr. Joseph Savoie and our entire Athletics Department, allow me to thank you for your commitment, loyalty and unwavering support of our amazing University and student-athletes.

Sincerely,"
