Lafayette firefighters were called out to the 200 block of Spencer Drive yesterday to put out a house fire.

Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says a neighbor called 911 after hearing the smoke alarm going off in the home around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

The home's owner, Michael Arceneaux, was not home at the time of the fire, but his stepson, 39-year-old Josh Haney, was.  Haney was not harmed.

Trahan says Haney admitted to setting the fire.  He was charged with Simple Arson.

The fire started in one of the bedrooms of the home.

Fire investigators continue to investigate to determine the reason for intentionally setting the fire.
