SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Police in northwest Louisiana say a man wanted in Oklahoma killed himself during a chase, causing his truck to hit a car and seriously injure a couple.

Shreveport police Cpl. Breck Scott says the chase began when investigators found 30-year-old Damian Pea on Thursday night in a pickup truck at a gas station. They tried to arrest him but he got behind the wheel and sped off.

During the chase, police say Pea shot himself in the head. The Times reports that Pea was wanted in Oklahoma County on charges including kidnapping, eluding police officers, robbery and burglary.

The injured couple was 81-year-old Clayton Weaver and his 78-year-old wife Linda Weaver, of Shreveport. KSLA-TV reports that dozens of blood donors came Friday to help the Weavers.
