Man Sentenced For Killing Bear In Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a Mississippi man has been sentenced to three of years of supervised probation and a $3,000 fine for killing a black bear in Amite County.
Federal officials say in a news release that 38-year-old Joseph Wayne Baxter of Gloster was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court.
Baxter was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the Appalachian Bear Rescue fund and $10,000 to the state of Mississippi for the value of the bear.
Baxter had to give up his 2005 GMC truck and $500 for the value of the rifle he used to kill it.
Authorities say the bear was killed in December 2011.
