Mandatory Masks Required for Iberia Medical Center Visitors

While some might see the wearing of a face mask as in imposition. A lot of us see wearing a face mask as an unselfish act that we can do to keep our fellow human beings safer from the spread of illnesses such as the coronavirus. Medical institutions know far to well the value of personal protection equipment and now that restrictions during the Louisiana Stay at Home order have been loosened a little, now is not the time to abandon them totally.

During the first phase of the state's stay at home order, many hospitals completely restricted visitor access to their facility. Now, some of those restrictions are changing such is the case with Iberia Medical Center.

The most important change comes today, Monday, May 4th. That's when the hospital will require visitors and anyone who enters the hospital's Main and North campus to wear a face mask at all times.

Dionne Viator CEO of Iberia Medical told KLFY television the reason for the mandate.

As the Louisiana Department of Health lifted the restrictions on elective cases, scheduling of non-emergency surgeries and procedures at Iberia Medical Center has been increasing. Additionally, as imaging and lab services continue to expand, so does the need to create and enforce practices that ensure the safety of patients, physicians, and staff, which is our top priority.

The mask policy begins this morning at 8 am.
