A movie that was partially filmed around Acadiana will be out in theaters on June 24. We all remember the Matthew McConaughey sightings around the area last summer, and the casting calls for 'Free State of Jones' - the Civil war drama which was directed by Gary Ross. The movie will officially hit theaters on June 24, and the trailer has just been released.

Based on a true story, McConaughey stars as a defiant southern farmer who goes up against the Confederate Army. He and other Southerners launched an uprising that resulted in Jones County, Mississippi  seceding from the Confederacy. Thus, creating a 'Free State of Jones.'

A lot of the movie was filmed here in Louisiana with locals as extras, so be on the look out for people and locations that you might recognize!
