MONROE, La. (AP) — Monroe City School Board members have voted not to renew Superintendent Kathleen Harris' contract when it expires on Dec 31.

Harris told The News-Star late Tuesday night she would like the board to reconsider its decision.

The discussion of the contract renewal was on the agenda to follow an executive session with Harris to discuss her recent evaluation, but Harris chose to have the discussion in open session.

Following her decision, board attorney Doug Lawrence cautioned board members about talking in open session regarding issues of competency, fitness and character.

Lawrence also reminded the board that Harris had presented something styled as grievance to him and the board.

An unfavorable evaluation released by Harris on May 1 hinted at the board's intention not to renew the contract.
