MONROE, La. (AP) — The 2011-12 fiscal year marks the eighth consecutive year the city of Monroe has recorded a budget surplus.

Monroe officials won't know the exact amount of the surplus until its independent auditors complete the annual audit report. Auditors will present the audit at the City Council's first meeting in November.

The News-Star reports Mayor Jamie Mayo announced the projected budget surplus Tuesday at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce's annual state of local government luncheon.
