BASTROP, La. (AP) — Morehouse Parish deputies have arrested a teenager accused of fatally shooting another teen.

Chief Deputy Brian Shoemaker tells The News-Star the shooting happened Wednesday in Bastrop.

When deputies arrived, Shoemaker says they determined that two 17-year-olds were playing with a hand gun that was unloaded before they put it away.

The investigation revealed one of the teens got another gun out of a holster and started playing with it.

Deputies said the teen began pointing it in the general direction of Michael Johnson and discharged the firearm, striking Johnson in the chest.

Johnson was taken by ambulance to Morehouse General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The shooter was booked with negligent homicide.

Bond was set at $75,000.
