A Morgan City man is accused of threatening a woman during a domestic disturbance at her Franklin home, ordering her to get in his car and fleeing with the woman.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies were called out to a Third Street home in Morgan City Saturday morning after someone called for their help.

Detectives learned the woman had been punched about her head, face and arms multiple times.

When deputies got to the woman's house, the front door was open, and the woman who lives there was gone.  Witnesses told police the woman got into the man's car.

Later, deputies learned the woman, fearing for her life, got into 37-year-old Jarnell Payne's Dodge Durango.

Deputies were able to find Payne's car on Prairie Road North in Franklin, and they arrested him.

He is facing four charges:

  • Simple kidnapping
  • Domestic abuse battery
  • Unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling
  • Disturbing the peace
