86-year-old Purvis Picard of New Iberia is now dead after injuries from a crash on June 10 have ultimately taken his life.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says the crash happened on US Highway 90 near Le Triumphe in St. Martin Parish that morning. Trooper Gossen says, for unknown reasons, Picard's vehicle hit the back of a flat bed trailer being pulled by an 18-wheeler that had stopped in the left turn lane. He says this happened on a day that the weather was causing poor visibility.

Trooper Gossen says both Picard and his passenger refused medical attention on the scene, but Picard was brought to a local hospital by a family member later that same day.

Authorities continue to investigate.
