The November 6th election was supposed to include a vote on legalizing video poker in Iberia Parish, but the measure has been withdrawn after the Iberia Parish Council voted to remove it.

The council voted unanimously to remove the item from the ballot and then passed another item to ask the state Legislature to approve the vote in the first place.

According to the Parish legal adviser Dean Wattingy this is the proper procedure.

According to The Advocate, a local pastor, Rev. Ron Perkins, attended the council meeting to voice his opposition because residents had already voted it down in the late 90s. He went so far as asking how much money could be generated with the installation of the businesses. Councilman Troy Comeaux said that he didn't have a specific number, but thought that it could bring in millions of dollars.
