After years of public service campaigns, the number of people buckling their seat belts is now at an all time high of 79.3 percent, and state officials say that is one of the reasons traffic deaths are down.

The 79.3 percent rate is an increase over last year's number of 77.7 percent.  Last year's number had set a record for compliance as well.

Louisiana highway safety officials say that more people bucking up is part of the reason why the crash statistics for 2011 show a decline for the fourth year in a row.
