The Obama administration announced today its NOT moving forward on a plan to allow offshore oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico or off the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts. During a teleconference, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says the federal government is instead, focusing on safety in areas where drilling is currently allowed. President Obama announced in March, just a few weeks before the BP oil
spill disaster, that the federal government would allow drilling from Delaware to central Florida. Salazar says because of the BP spill, the administration has decided not to expand to new areas at this time. Salazar says there's still a large in the western gulf of mexico that has yet to see any oil and gas drilling.
