OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — An Opelousas man has been arrested after breaking into a house, injuring an elderly resident who tried to stop him, all while police say he was under the influence of phencyclidine, or PCP.

The Advocate reports Opelousas police found 44-year-old Perry Tyler locked in a bedroom in a house just after 2 a.m. Saturday, lying on his back and pointing a shotgun toward the ceiling as a female resident of the home hid from him in a closet.

Police Chief Perry Gallow says officers seized the gun and arrested Tyler, who thanked the officers for arresting him.

Tyler was booked with home invasion, battery of the infirm and resisting an officer.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
