Shortly after 4:00am today Louisiana State Police were asked by Opelousas Police to help investigate a crash on LA 357.

A chase started when Opelousas police attempted to stop a 2010 Jeep Wrangler driven by 15 year old Deontei Fuselier of Lafayette for driving the wrong way on US 190. Refusing to stop Fuselier led police on a chase through Opelousas. Traveling south on LA 357 Fuselier lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road causing the Jeep to overturn. Fusiler and three occupants were not restrained and were all ejected.

Fuselier was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. A 13 year old and 14 year old passenger were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries while a 15 year old passenger was transported with critical injuries.

At this time it's not known if impairment was a factor in the crash but toxicology samples were taken  and submitted to the State Police Crime Lag.

The vehicle Fuselier was driving had been reported stolen in Lafayette Parish.

The crash remains under investigation.
