Quachita Board Expands Healthcare At Richwood High School

MONROE, La. (AP) — While the planned school-based health clinic at Richwood High School never materialized, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury and Living Well Foundation decided to use funding to help provide more healthcare-related education for those students.

The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/TQJQpT ) the Ouachita Parish School Board plans to use approximately $1.5 million of the $19 million from its 2011 bond sale to construct a building at Richwood High School to expand the school's certified nursing program, first responder program, sport medicine and pharmacy technician courses.

Randy Hammett, Ouachita Parish Schools' director of high schools, said plans for the expansion are being finalized and construction should begin in early 2013.

He said the funding will be used to buy equipment and supplies and other materials needed for those programs.
