KENNER, La. (AP) — Jefferson Parish authorities say a man accused of raping and kidnapping his female roommate in Kenner was mistakenly released from custody last month, then deported to Honduras.

The Times-Picayune reports that authorities say Kenner Police arrested Jose Argueta-Amaya in September and booked him with forcible rape, kidnapping and other charges.

A judge found probable cause on the rape charges, but not on the kidnapping and some of the other charges. That led to the mix-up that preceded his release.

Kenner police had notified immigration officials that the suspect was in the country illegally. He was deported after his release. It was unclear whether he will be returned to face charges.
