ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — The Rapides Parish School District could have a new superintendent in April. That's according to a new timeline approved Tuesday by the school board.

Under this timeline, The Town Talk reports http://townta.lk/VBT3BP ) the board would vote to appoint a replacement for former superintendent Gary Jones at a special meeting on April 9.

This would follow months of process -- from advertising for applicants from Jan. 7-Feb. 8 to interviews in March.

The school board also approved entering into a new contract with MacPherson & Jacobson, a private firm hired by the Board in August to advertise for the position, accept applications and perform background checks. Consultants with the firm also conducted public forums to gauge what the public wanted in its next superintendent.
