ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Directors in the Rapides Parish School District will get paid as much as high school principals under a new salary schedule.

The Town Talk reports the Rapides Parish School Board approved the schedule last week, and it went into effect Aug. 8. The director salary schedule is the same as the schedule for a Rapides high school principal of a school with 601 or more students.

The salary schedule applies to all 11 directors within the school district -- child welfare, elementary education, finance, personnel, secondary education, technology, transportation, virtual programs, food and nutrition, special education and federal programs.

The salary schedule begins starting pay at $76,711.
