The American Red Cross wants you to be safe this hurricane season, and they are ready to help before, during, and after Hurricane Delta hits the Gulf Coast. They have several tips listed on their website ahead of the storm, and those include:

  • Listen to local radio, NOAA radio or local TV stations for information.
  • Be prepared to evacuate
  • Pack hand sanitizer in your emergency kit
  • Find a shelter

“To find a safe place to stay, listen to local officials for evacuation guidance or call 211. You can also visit redcross.org or view open shelters through the Red Cross Emergency app which is available in app stores by searching for the American Red Cross or going to redcross.org/apps.” But, just know that due to COVID-19, pets will not be welcome at American Red Cross shelters at this time. If you have pets, and need to evacuate, go to RedRover.org to find a location near you.

They are also encouraging people who need to evacuate (even during or after the storm) to bring the following items with you:

  • Face masks
  • Prescription medications
  • Extra clothing
  • Pillows, blankets
  • Hygiene supplies
  • Comfort items
  • Important documents

The Red Cross currently has more than “650 disaster workers supporting relief efforts in Louisiana either on the ground or virtually. They also have pre-positioned more than 60,000 ready-to-eat meals, along with more shelter and relief supplies all along the Gulf Coast.”

If you would like to make a donation to help, or volunteer, go to redcross.org, call 800-RED-CROSS or text the word DELTA to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
