Hurricane season begins June 1st, and Louisiana revenue officials are hoping a sales tax holiday will help you save money while trying to prepare for hurricane season.

Items like flashlights, batteries, portable generators and other emergency supplies will be free from Louisiana's 4 percent sate sales tax this Saturday and Sunday, May 24th and May 35th.

The Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday gives residents a chance to prepare for storm season.

The sales tax holiday applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of each item, according to Revenue Secretary Tim Barfield.

Local taxes apply unless specifically exempted by local taxing authorities. More details on items that can be purchased under the program are available online at by clicking here.
