It is about that time of year again, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced they will be closing shrimping next week.  DWF officials say the 2012 spring inshore shrimp season will be shutting down on Monday, July 9 in several different places.

The closure for this coming Monday will affect certain areas of the Pontchartrain Basin, but it will mean closure for all of the Mississippi River along with the Barataria and Mermentau River basins.  The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it is necessary to close down those areas to protect the shrimp that are growing in those areas now.  DWF officials say that they want the shrimp to grow larger before they are brought to market.

There are several areas that will remain open at this time including Lake Borgne along with Lake Pontchartrain in addition to the Breton and Chandeleur sounds.
