South Louisiana Community College has selected a site in St. Martinville as the location for its new college in St. Martin Parish.

The $9.2 million, 36,000 square foot facility will be located near the old Fruit of the Loom building near the intersection of Highway 31 and Moore Avenue, according to Christine Payton, spokesperson for SLCC.

"The campus itself was scheduled for a brand new building since 2007," Payton said. "The current building is in a state of disrepair."

Payton also said the current college is in a "very residential" location, creating access and parking problems, and she said "some of our programs are a little loud--maybe a little loud for the neighbors."

All programming will be under one roof in the building, Payton said, a departure from the several buildings the various programs occupy.
