CHALMETTE, La. (AP) Voting on a series of proposals to amend St. Bernard Parish's home rule charter to give the Parish Council authority to hire staff, make board appointments and approve major contracts is on hold after a computer virus hit parish computers last week.

Roxanne Adams, the council's clerk, tells The New Orleans Advocate the computer problems prevented notice of the items from being published in the parish's official journal, as required by law.

In all, Adams says 17 items on tap for the council's meeting this week will be put on hold until next month.

The virus apparently led some parish computers to begin sending out junk email, which caused all parish government emails to be blocked by recipients.
